Code of conduct
The behavior we expect from everyone, so the IKOUĒ community stays a safe, respectful, and useful space for all.
Where this code applies
This code of conduct applies everywhere the IKOUĒ community gathers: Academy promotions (in-person and online), Factory and Connect interactions, our Discord server, our GitHub repositories, and our in-person events in Bangui or elsewhere.
It applies to everyone taking part in those spaces: learners, mentors, founders, IKOUĒ team members, speakers, and guests.
What we expect
We ask everyone to:
- treat others with respect, regardless of skill level, background, origin, gender, religion, or circumstances;
- give and receive feedback constructively, in a spirit of learning;
- be patient with beginners; everyone started somewhere;
- share credit and acknowledge others' work, especially on team-built projects;
- speak up when a behavior makes you, or someone else, uncomfortable.
Unacceptable behavior
The following are not tolerated, in any form:
- harassment, including of a sexual nature, and unwelcome advances;
- discriminatory remarks or hate speech, related to origin, gender, orientation, disability, religion, or any other personal characteristic;
- intimidation, insults, or personal attacks, including in code reviews or technical discussions;
- sharing someone else's private information without their consent;
- any form of violence, threats, or incitement to violence;
- deliberately disrupting a training session, an event, or a discussion channel.
How to report an issue
If you witness or experience behavior that goes against this code, contact us at contact@ikoue.com, or speak directly to a mentor or program lead you trust. We will handle your report seriously and discreetly.
You can report something that concerns you directly, or a behavior you witnessed toward someone else.
How we respond
We evaluate every report on a case-by-case basis. Depending on severity and context, our response can range from an informal reminder of the rules, to a written warning, to a temporary or permanent removal from a program, an event, or our online spaces (Discord, GitHub).
We protect the confidentiality of everyone involved in a report as much as possible.
